Baroquefest with JSRACS

posted 21 May 2013, 03:54 by Thomas Friberg
7:30pm, Thursday 13 June, St Paul's Chapel, Mirrabooka

I will perform bass solos from Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri.

From the JSRACS 2013 Arts Brochure:

This stunning piece of Baroque music, completed in 1680 was the very first Lutheran Cantata and translates to ‘The limbs of our Jesus’. Written in seven sections, it describes the various parts of Christ that suffered during his crucifixion; feet, knees, hands, side, breast, heart and head. In each part, biblical extracts referring to the limbs frame verses of the poem. The Secondary Choir will perform this wonderful piece with contributions from the Organ Scholars and Septissimo Strings in the beautiful acoustic of St Paul’s Chapel.

The organ scholars will perform with antiphonal brass players with stunning music by; Bach, Buxtehude, Frescobaldi, Pachelbel, Handel, Corelli and Schütz.
