7:30pm Friday 25 November 2016, Christ Church Claremont, Perth

Conducted by Dr. Peter Tregear

The Giovanni Consort present a concert celebrating the wonderful music of Australia’s greatest composer, Percy Grainger. We are delighted to be joined by guest director, Dr Peter Tregear, a Grainger expert, who is sure to shine a unique light on this fun, colourful and brilliant music.

Percy Grainger was an extremely eccentric man and had quite eclectic musical tastes. He shunned the establishment and had little regard for he the “high art” for which he was expected to aspire. However, in the unconventional manner and forms in which he wrote, there is incredible genius and music of great beauty. This is clear from the esteem with which he was held by the great composers of his day-  Britten, Vaughan Williams and Grieg were great admirers of his work.

In this concert we will perform some of this most famous choral compositions, songs and folk song arrangements, including I’ll Be Seventeen Come Sunday, Brigg Fair, Irish Tune from County Derry and the sublime Mo Nighean Dubh. We are delighted to be joined by the solo talents of soprano, Brianna Louwen and baritone, Thomas Friberg in some of Grainger’s beloved songs.
